Professor Dell Hathaway Hymes died last Friday, November 13. Professor Hymes was an extremely influential anthropologist, linguist, and folklorist. Anyone who’s taken a linguist anthropology class here at KSU will be familiar with both his studies of communicative competence and his Ethnography of Speaking.
