Plains Anthropological Society Conference

Posted by Webmaster in general, anthro news

The Plains Anthropological Society will be holding its annual meeting/conference next month (Nov 8-11) in Topeka (it will never be any closer than this!).  This is the largest regional anthropological conference in North America.  I hope you will plan to attend. (Register in advance to save money.)

Here is a brief review of activities associated with the conference:

Wednesday Nov 8 - afternoon field trip & evening Early-Bird Party

Thursday Nov 9 - multiple sessions of presentations (papers and posters) throughout the day; business meeting; reception at the Kansas Museum of History (free tours of the excellent exhibits and the archaeology lab [check it out for possible museum internships for those interested])

Friday Nov 10 - multiple sessions of presentations (papers and posters) throughout the day; banquet; guest speaker Dr. Schulyer Mead Jones (world-renowned anthropologist, originally from Kansas, but retired from Oxford’s Pitt-Rivers Museum)  (cost for attending the banquet, but NOT to attend Dr. Jones’ presentation)

Saturday Nov 11 - morning sessions of presentations; afternoon field trip to the wonderful Steamboat Arabia Museum in Kansas City

I’d be happy to provide additional information upon request.
