Dim Sum Plans (From Kelly)
Hello once again! I am so glad for all the people who are planning on going on our small trip and are super excited about it. I know most of you are in for sure, but I was hoping that everyone who DEFINITELY wanted to go would hit me up one more time to confirm. BE SURE TO READ BELOW, AS THERE HAVE BEEN SOME CHANGES TO THE SCHEDULE!!!
If you have no idea what I am talking about you should also read below and if everyone could give me some sort of idea with a possible percentage on how likely it is you will attend (I know it is still ~2 weeks away), that would help me out a ton with reservations for dim sum along with planning for transportation and lodging. I would also like to put out there that the schedule may seem kind of kray-z. We have some different groups doing different things, but we are confident it will all work out fantastic!!!
Depart Friday November 3rd @ ~3:00pm to grab a bite to eat (this is not final and can be adjusted). We are then planning on attending the UMKC Fall Dance Concert. My sister is a dance major here so I have been to lots of shows, and let me tell you they frickin’ rock. It’s like a modern/classical/edgy kind of conglomeration of dance styles. The show should last ~1.5 hours.
After the show we will head down to the Crossroads Art District in downtown KC to check out First Fridays. This is when a bunch of the shops and art galleries open their doors and colaborate in an event that brings people from all over the metropolitan area. It is quite a crowd! This was our original plan, so if some people aren’t interested in the UMKC show they could maybe head down to First Fridays early? It is sometimes hard to say what the crowd will do, especially since it is cold……
It has also been said that after First Fridays anyone who would like to hit up Westport and the Plaza should!!! The details of this can be worked out between us once we are there…..
There is also the question of anyone who would like to attend the Friday events but needs to head back on Friday nite? We have one person for sure in that situation so speak up if that includes you too, we want you guys to join us!!!
The plan for Saturday is Dim Sum @ 11:00am SHARP! It is quite the thing to go to Dim Sum on Saturday morning so we need to get there so they don’t give our reservation away. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Dim Sum, it translates as “small bites” and is like a Chinese brunch. My family does this thing where we eat it once a year around the holidays so I will be happy to assist everyone in their Dim Sum choices!!! It is definitely some new flavors for your tastebuds (we are not talking about General Tso’s chicken and fried rice here
, but it’s not just the food, the service style that accompanies it is quite an experience as well!!!
Originally we had planned on heading back to Manhattan after Dim Sum and stopping at the KU Anthropology Museum, but unfortunately there will be no one to show us around. Therefore, I propose we visit the Kemper Museum that is located close to where we will be eating Dim Sum, and the Nelson Atkins is also located in this same area.
So the original plan is to visit A museum then head back to Manhattan. The Kemper museum is free and there is always a small donation to enter the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art.
I am actually planning on staying in KC until Sunday @ 1:00ish and it would be great if a couple other people would want to stay too, probably like three @ the most. It would just be a chill nite on Saturday and Sunday we’d wake up and visit the Rime Buddhist Center then grab a quick bite @ the Jeruselum Bakery (can you tell, I LOVE GOOD FOOD) and be back in Manhattan no later than 3.30ish (Sunday).
As far as sleeping quarters goes……..we should all bring blanket and pillow cause we might be hittin’ the floor, folks! But it’s free so, yeah!!! There is one place to stay for ~6 people that is near downtown. The other two places are about 20 minutes south of there and will sleep whoever doesn’t fit downtown.
So if this wasn’t enough info for you I have briefly listed expenses below. These expenses are as if we have no funding and I am not sure how much the club is going to provide to members as of yet. I have also done rough estimates that are a bit high, just to be safe.
Gas: $10/person (this is with 15 people/3 cars @ $30/tank)
Dim Sum: $15 (this is a little hard to estimate)
UMKC Fall Concert: $5 (I am working on a group discount, but definitely bring your student ID’s)
These are the main expenses. We will also need to account for personal meals (Friday dinner, snack?, Saturday lunch). If you are considering staying till Sunday there will be an additional dinner and lunch, which can probably be done pretty cheaply. And of course there is whatever else you’d like to spend your $$$$ on. So for those planning on doing all regularly scheduled events and returning SATURDAY afternoon the approximate cost will be…………$50 MAX! Definitely an overestimate people and hopefully there will be a small price reduction for members (in other words pay your dues if you haven’t yet!!!).
Be in touch~
