Congrats to Anthro Students!

Congratulations to Sarah Trabert, senior in anthropology at KSU. Sarah completed research in the KSU Archaeology Lab this past summer through the McNair Scholars Program under the mentorship of Brad Logan. She has presented her research at several venues, most recently the 65th Annual Plains Anthropological Conference held in Rapid City. She entered her paper in the Undergraduate Student Paper Competition sponsored by the Plains Anthropological Society (PAS) and presented it in a very professional manner to her peers and anthropology professionals. As a result of her efforts, she was awarded the PAS Undergraduate Student Paper Award for 2007! I hope you will join me in congratulating her.

Sarah, Eric Skov, and Katie Ross attended the Plains Conference having received monetary awards from the conference organizers to offset costs of attending. We are grateful to the conference organizers, including Michael Fosha, a KSU alum and presently assistant state archaeologist in South Dakota, for finding funds to help students start their professional activities. (44 students attended this year’s conference, including a number of undergraduates from various schools throughout the Plains.) Not only did the organizers provide substantial funds for undergraduate students, but also wonderful door prizes, including 3 GPS units, 3 digital cameras, and 28 Marshaltown trowels (the favorite tool of field archaeologists throughout the country). Sarah was also lucky to win a GPS unit and Eric and Katie a trowel!
