Undergraduate and Graduate Students: The Plains Anthropological Conference Wants You!
The 2008 Plains Anthropological Conference continues to be student friendly! This year, the conference offers:
Travel Stipends: up to $150 to undergraduate students attending the conference and graduate students presenting at the conference. If you are enrolled for the fall semester, just bring your student ID to the conference and fill out the relevant portion of the registration form (funding awarded at the conference on a first come-first served basis).
Student Paper Award: Sponsored every meeting by the Plains Anthropological Society. More information available on the PAC web page:
http://www.ou.edu/cas/archsur/plainsanth/awards/studentpaper.htm
Job Fair: held by the Wyoming Association of Professional Archaeologists (WAPA). Students of all levels of experience should bring copies of their current resume/vitae to seek summer fieldwork, jobs, or internships. Also, the Fair includes information on various
universities’ Graduate Programs.
Graduate Student Recruitment Fair: We are working on arrangements for a Grad school fair where information on various regional Graduate Programs will be available.
Student Drawings: Each registered student’s name is entered into as door prize drawing. Win a digital camera, hand-held GPS unit, trowel, digital recorder, and more. Remember to mark your registration form, under Academic Standing, as either “graduate” or “undergraduate”.
Publication Vendors: University presses and professional societies from around the Plains offer discounts to conference attendees on books, reports, and other publications. A few of the state archaeological societies also will offer discounted memberships to students who sign up at the conference.
Food/Beverage Vendors: Several local establishments are offering discounts to registered conference goers who show their name tag when ordering.
Keep checking the 2008 Plains website for further details and updates as they become available. We appreciate your assistance in spreading the word to your students and look forward to seeing you all in Laramie this October.
