Dr. Finnegan on YouTube!

Posted by Prof Wesch in anthro news

As many of you know, Dr. Finnegan is one of the nation’s leading forensic anthropology experts. A recent video on YouTube by Stephanie Carr of the Ecollegian, demonstrates his efforts to pass his expertise on to his students.

Finnegan leads students to collect evidence at mock crime scene

Dr. Finnegan has done research on seven continents, excavated on five, and has worked on more than 400 cases to identify skeletal remains. He has identified downed American pilots in Vietnam, dissidents in Eastern Europe, and even Jesse James. DNA tests Finnegan did in 1995 say the real Jesse James is buried at the James farm in Kearney, Mo. Finnegan has lectured all over the world and been contacted for consultation by forensic labs worldwide.

(Belated) Meeting Minutes from 10.22.09

Posted by sbrooks in anthro news

At our last meeting we discussed our upcoming trip, t-shirts, our next club meeting, and club dues.

Club Trip
The anth club will be traveling to Kansas City on Sunday, Nov. 15 to visit the Steamboat Arabia Museum (a TOTALLY AWESOME Museum which can be checked out here http://www.1856.com/). The steamboat Arabia was built in 1853, sunk, and rediscovered 132 years later. The museum provides an excellent display of frontier life. We will be meeting at 10am in the Waters Parking lot and will drive in together. We plan to eat somewhere in Kansas City afterward. Tickets to the event are $12.50 and we’re not collecting money, so just have it available when you show up. Hope to see lots of faces on the 15th!!

T-Shirts!!
The anthclub t-shirts have been designed. Shirts will be a chocolate brown with white printing. There will be a large design on the front with “What Being Said Says…” printed on the back with a list of professor’s quotes following. If you plan on buying one, please email Danielle Vaughn to let her know what size you’d like.

Next Club Meeting
Our next club meeting will be Thursday, November 5. We will be meeting at Amanda’s house (direction on facebook page and sent out over listserv). We plan to take care of some general “club stuff” and will then watch “Indiana Jones: The Last Crusade.” Feel free to bring any snacks or drinks you’d like to share with the group.

Club Dues
Club dues are due! This is just a friendly reminder that we are collecting club dues this year. Dues are $5 and can be given to Kale Yoder.

Annual Anthropology Club Potluck

Posted by sbrooks in anthro news

Join us at Anneberg Park on Friday, September 11 for the annual Anthropology Club Potluck. We’ll be meeting in Shelter #2 from 5:30-7:30pm. This is a great opportunity to meet/get to know your fellow majors, minors, professors, and others interested in anthropology. In the spirit of Potluck-ness, please bring your favorite dish, snack, drink (non-alcoholic), or dessert to share with the group.

Anneberg #2 (the shelter) is located at the northwest corner of Jerry Dishman Lake in Frank Anneberg Park. In case you missed the handy directions sent out by Susan over the Listserv, they are as follows:

Directions: Drive west on Anderson Ave. Go past Seth Child, Village Plaza, and some houses. You will see Anneberg Dr. on your left (Sharingbrook Dr. is on the right). If you reach Kimball Ave/N Scenic Dr, you have gone too far. Turn left onto Anneberg Dr. and take a left at the fork. You should be driving around a lake. Hopefully, you’ll come across us.
