Pizza Hut Fundraiser

Posted by dvaughn in anthro news

Greetings fellow club members!

If you were not able to make it to Hale tonight to pick up some Pizza Hut discount cards, email Amanda (astueve@ksu.edu) or myself (dvaughn@k-state.edu), and we will get some to you!

Basically, the discount card works much like a punch card. There are four different offers on each card (ie: buy a medium or large pizza and get a free medium pizza or buy a medium or large pizza and get a free order of cheez sticks, etc) and each offer has 5 punches, meaning you can use the offer up to 5 times. Altogether, this equals 20 great deals, all for only $12! Woo hoo!!!

If you are interested in selling or buying, let Amanda or myself know. It is a great way for the club to raise some much needed money, so your participation is important! Thanks!!!!

Meeting Minutes 03.26.09

Posted by dvaughn in anthro news

Thanks to all of you who were able to make it out to the meeting! We had a great time getting to know each other and watching a pretty intense movie (oh man…)! The rest of the semester should be great!

If you were not able to make it to the meeting, no worries! There will be more! We didn’t get a chance to watch ‘The Linguists’ so we will probably have another movie night at some point. Anyway, just to fill everyone in, we talked about….

*Open House–Saturday 9 am – 3 pm.  If you are interested in helping out, email Amanda (astueve@ksu.edu) and let her know.

*Budget situation–There will be a meeting held (date to come later) in order to help form a letter to our local legislators. If you aren’t able to make it, be sure to get a copy of the letter to send to your local legislator. Let’s make sure these budget cuts don’t happen!!!

*Facebook group/website–If you haven’t joined the facebook group “KSU Anthropology Club” or the listserv, go ahead and join! We will be sending out important information over both. Also, if you register (right hand column on this page) for the website, you can make posts. If you come across anything that interests you that you think others in the anthro club would be interested in, go ahed and post it, rather it be a video, news link, ranting, etc. Hopefully we can get some good discussion going.

*Fundraising–We are currently trying to pull some fundraising ideas together. Currently, we are thinking about selling Pizza Hut discount cards and are in the process of coordinating with their manager. More news will be posted as soon as we find out more. Also, later on in the semester we are thinking about holding an International Dinner, so start thinking about yummy international cuisine recipes : )

I think that’s about it, if I missed anything, feel free to add it on!!! Have a great weekend!

Digital Ethnography Spring 2009 Trailer

Posted by Prof Wesch in anthro news, mediated culture

After the 94 articles activity I reported about on our Digital Ethnography blog 2 weeks ago, my research team (“students”) began crafting their research proposals. These were then aggregated into one collaborative proposal showing how each project is related to the others. In the meantime, they have also been learning the language of video; gathering clips, pictures, and techniques for demonstrating their proposals in compelling ways. Most of them had never edited video before, and yet here we are just 4 weeks into the semester and they have already mastered the basics and created some interesting work. The video below is simply some of the best of their 16 “trailers” mashed together to give you a glimpse into the project we hope to create throughout the rest of this semester. We call the project: “The Fight for Significance in the Age of the Microcelebrity: Anonymity, Anonymous, Smart Mobs, Mad Mobs, Bot Mobs and the Great American Poets”

All the students are actively blogging about their projects. You are welcome to follow along at our research hub.
