NPS Internships

Posted by Webmaster in general

E-mail from Dr. Ritterbush:

It may seem early, but it is time to start thinking about summer 2008 internships.  A wide variety of internships (many paid) are available around the country, but you will need to do some research to find one that fits your interests.  That work is well worth it, however, as internships are excellent ways to learn through hands-on experiences, provide experience while exploring potential future career, prepare you for that career, and to network with others.   (more…)

Congrats to Anthro Students!

Posted by Webmaster in anthro news

Congratulations to Sarah Trabert, senior in anthropology at KSU. Sarah completed research in the KSU Archaeology Lab this past summer through the McNair Scholars Program under the mentorship of Brad Logan. She has presented her research at several venues, most recently the 65th Annual Plains Anthropological Conference held in Rapid City. She entered her paper in the Undergraduate Student Paper Competition sponsored by the Plains Anthropological Society (PAS) and presented it in a very professional manner to her peers and anthropology professionals. As a result of her efforts, she was awarded the PAS Undergraduate Student Paper Award for 2007! I hope you will join me in congratulating her. (more…)

New York - September 13, 2007 - At long last, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples is a reality. It was adopted today by the United Nations General Assembly by a vote of 143 to 4 with 11 abstentions. The declaration spells out the fundamental rights of indigenous peoples including their right to their traditional lands and resources; their right to give their free, prior, and informed consent before governments take actions that negatively affect them; their right to be free from genocide and forced relocation; and their rights to their languages, cultures and spiritual beliefs. Attention all anthropology majors and enthusiasts. Before the weather starts to change on us, we’re going to be having our annual Anthropology Club BBQ. Location will be at Goodnow Park, which is at the end of 4th street down near Bob’s Diner (I’m sure everyone knows where that is.)

We’ll be starting at 6pm on Friday September 7 and run until about 10pm. Admission is potluck, so bring your favorite dish (preferably something other people will want to eat as well), a beverage, or if you’re short on time and can’t prepare something, a simple 2$ donation will suffice.
