Becky’s Video 2.0
Jan 30th, 2007 by Becky
In the second project, I have decided to make the 2.0 verson of my first video about some modern technology, in hopes of improving it. I have added some testimonial clips as well as quotes from companies and newspapers to add a bit of commentary on the subject and to better get across the theme, which is the addictive nature of technology and how it is becoming a part of our daily experience. I have employed the techniques of titling and layering, as well as panning and enveloping. The most helpful in my case was the enveloping, since the strong beat of the music drowned out any audio before (thus i did not use it!) but it really came in handy. The pan, though it does need to be cleaned up, added an interesting touch, as I was inspired by Dr. Wesch! Thank you very much to Curtis for helping with that.
The problems that occured along the way involved, mainly, the panning. My original image, a black and white photoograph of a hand holding an ipod, for whatever reason, would not remain transparent in the window when transfered to Vegas. Furthermore, I learned that when you move a selection of clips, or even the entire video, the envelopes would not follow, causing for some interesting variations in sound.
The things that need to be addressed are the dramatic changes in volume (done on purpose because of my enthusiasm) The window of the pan, and perhaps the long pause at the beginning. There is also a twitch in one later testimonial..
Overall, however, the video was (mostly) a blast. A fun little comment to add is that Curtis’s testimpny is actually about 4 different clips synched together with much patience.

Very impressive. You not only have good transitions, effects, and audio levels, but your shots are also nicely composed … and what is really amazing for this early in the semester is that you have interesting content.
i think adding the testimonials was the major improvement. i have some great ones too that i didnt manage to get in, it was hard to weed them out. one i should have put in was my roommate (the redhead) saying how we have an easily addicted generation..which leads me to think a bit as to whether i agree…i like those kinds of statements the best. Although, Chris’s statement, the one playing WOW towards the end..was pretty priceless.
